A few facts about laser safety and regulations:

1)Anyone operating a laser over 5mW (5 1/1000 of a watt) for  public viewing must have a license (variance) from the FDA/NCDRH, as well as a minimum $1million liability insurance policy. Make sure whoever you hire shows you proof of both.

2)The rules of operation set forth by the NCDRH and ANSI are ALL for the safety of anyone in the vicinity of a laser or laserlight show. Your laser show operator  will do whatever you envision, but only if it meets these rules. SAFETY FIRST!

3)Any outdoor laser displays that go into the sky must be pre- approved by the FAA and the DOD. This means the notification process must start a minimum of 60 days before the event.

4)There are several complicated aspects to maintaining laser safety. Whoever you hire needs to be trained in these - yet another reason for making sure the company is licensed....the variance is only issued to those who have proven their knowledge.

   5) For further peace of mind, look for companies that are members of ILDA (International Laser Display Association). We are required to adhere to a strict code of safety and ethics.
